with women.
Hi’ I’m Sam Hypes
Christian Traditional Birth Attendant (CTBA)
1 in 3 women experience birth trauma, obstetric violence and abuse. The US maternity system is failing women and it time for thing to shift towards honoring women and their choices. Women deserve way more than standard maternity care. It's time to hold reverence for the sacred power of pregnancy & birth as something that connects women to their divine calling of bringing forth new life.
I was born in Boone, NC and moved to KY with my husband in 2016. I've been a birth worker for the last 5 years and have birthed two of my own babies. One in the hospital (a 36 week induction for high bp) and one at home.
When I was pregnant with my second, I knew I wanted something different for that pregnancy and to avoid another induction for “hypertension”. But I got sooo much more out of the experience than that.
During my second pregnancy I learned that true prenatal care is the things you do for yourself every day and I learned what sovereignty in birth really feels like.
It was a truly life changing experience, as my pregnancy and birth would have looked a lot different with the mainstream model of care.
That's why I'm here to learn and serve you in the way that you need and to be a beacon on your path to honoring God’s presence in pregnancy & birth.
I am so grateful and honored to spend most of my days connecting with and supporting women who are on this journey alongside me.
My Education + Experience:
I have been a birth worker since 2019. I began my midwifery journey in May 2022 and graduated from Indie Birth Midwifery School in January 2024. I have spent countless hours sitting with women in the prenatal time. I have served as a doula, student midwife, apprentice and midwife assistant over the last 5 years. I am just me, a human being with some birth knowledge and skills. I focus primarily on honoring the God’s design for birth.
In addition to completing Midwifery School in January 2024, I have continuing education with:
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - 2020 (in-person) and 2023 (online)
Twin and Breech Conference Louisville 2023 and 2024
Naolí Vinaver - Art of Birth + Prenatal Wisdom
I prioritize quality over quantity meaning I want to REALLY know/care for the women I walk with, and do not take that role lightly. & I do so with the guidance and support of sovereign midwives. I attend 3-5 births a month depending on distance and availability (so please reach out as soon as you know this path is for you). I consider myself a christian traditional birth attendant (CTBA) humbly serving God above all else.
What is a traditional birth attendant?
“Traditional birth attendants (TBAs) provided care throughout the world prior to the development of organized systems of medical care. In 2016, an estimated 22% of pregnant women delivered with a TBA, mostly in rural or remote areas that lacked formal health services. Still active in many regions, they provide care, including support and advice, to women during pregnancy and childbirth. Even though they generally have no formal medical training and are not recognized as medical practitioners, many families seek them as health care providers. They are generally women who have acquired their skills acting as apprentices of other TBAs or are self-taught.”

I feel really good about sharing since the birth felt so overwhelmingly joyful and emotionally healing for me! Would love for more people to see and know more about births so raw and untouched like that! Pure magic!
